A Magical Collaboration

The second, updated edition of this beautiful 78-card deck includes a 280-page accompanying guidebook, wrapped in a black cardstock sleeve. Limited edition of 750 — and more than half were swept up before we even announced they were available!

"The beauty of the Tarot is its ability to retain its soul through each metamorphosis and incarnation. It is, on many levels, a mirror of those who work with it, and allows them to make each reading a truly personal experience. ... It is our intention to respect the tradition and history of the tarot system, while replacing and renaming images with symbols and images that may be more connected to, or current, or personalized to our lives.
"At the turn of the New Year in January 2007, Sacha, Lori and Devon were reading tarot cards for the coming year. Sacha did not own a deck, and Lori and Sacha started talking about how they would like to design their own deck, to create images that felt more connected to, and representative of, their lives and their community’s experiences. ... Each of us coming to it with our own desires, backgrounds. We convened at communal houses over beet kraut and crackers, meeting at least every week for the first few months, discussing how we would like to see a tarot deck look. We encouraged each other to be unafraid of inventing new magic for the tarot, to speak about it with authority even though we felt less familiar with tarot than many witches in our lives. ...
"Our collaborative process is a unique and precious thing. The sum is greater than the parts. ... Part of creating new cards is refusing to adapt to what you are given. We have the power to create our own archetypes, meanings, language and understanding of our tiny universes. Give light to the shadows of hidden and undervalued attributes. Subculture is amazing. The systems we have created to understand and support ourselves and each other are profound. All of us make up the tarot. All of our experiences, good and bad. Ancestral memory, body memory, the heart, the mind. We are all in this together."
